Benjamin Loertscher

Benjamin Loertscher is a Senior Adviser to NOCON with over 15 years of experience consulting on competition matters as an economist and monitoring trustee.

He began his career at the Swiss Competition Commission supporting the chief economist and the services industries division. From 2010, he spent six years at a consultancy specialising in monitoring trustee services before transitioning into economics consulting, where he provided expert advice on competition economics matters in disputes, damages claims and merger investigations and advised on remedies design in several merger cases.

Benjamin holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Zurich and a Master’s in EU Competition Law from King’s College London.

He is native in (Swiss-)German, fluent in English and also speaks French.

His experience includes:

  • Over 20 monitoring trustee assignments from the European Commission and other competition authorities in mergers, antitrust and State aid cases covering a broad spectrum of structural and behavioural remedies.

  • High-profile cases such as the German sugar cartel, WTO dispute settlement proceedings relating to large civil aircraft, and a phase 2 merger investigation by the European Commission in the industrial chemicals sector.

His experience spans a wide range of industries including telecoms, chemicals, agricultural products, the retail sector, FMCG, consumer electronics, industrial goods, energy, and the digital sector.
